The Perverts Guide To Cinema Review
Slavoj Zizek, a psychologist, gives an indepth view of psychology in cinema, in this documentary. It goes way back to 1931 with the movie Possessed, to Mullholland Drive, and discusses subjects such as the Oedipus scenario in The Birds, and other Fruedian analysis of the Three Levels Of Subjectivity, the Id, Ego and Superego in Psycho, and The Marx Bros.
It was quite interesting to see this new angle on cinema. It makes you want to psychoanalyse everything you see from now on.
The character for my WIP project is more represented the Barber character in The Great Dictator and Neo in the Matrix who wants to make a change for his life but seems to be stuck where he is before being offered a choice to change it, without knowing if it’s for better or worse.
But I might change my mind about it when I watch the documentary again.
